ABOUT HAPE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT HAPE
What is Hapé (Rapé)?
Hapé, also known as rapé, is a sacred shamanic snuff made from finely ground Amazonian plants, often including tobacco (such as Mapacho) and medicinal herbs like Bobinsana, Kuntanawa, or Nukini. It has been used for centuries by Indigenous tribes as a physical and spiritual medicine to cleanse, center, and connect with the divine.
How is Hapé administered?
Hapé is gently blown into each nostril using a pipe (typically a tepi or kuripe). This sacred act is done with deep intention and respect. The blowing balances the left and right hemispheres of the brain, harmonizes the masculine and feminine energies, and centers the heart.
What does a Hapé ceremony involve?
Our Hapé ceremonies are guided with great care and presence. We begin by cleansing your energy field with Mapacho tobacco, Salvia, and Palo Santo. Depending on your intention and level of experience, our trained facilitators will choose a specific hapé blend for you. You will then receive the medicine in a ceremonial setting, supported with guidance, grounding, and prayer.
Ceremony duration: Approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour.
What are the effects of Hapé?
Effects can vary depending on the blend and your openness, but common experiences include:
A sense of clarity and stillness
Energetic cleansing or purging (emotionally, physically, or through tears, yawns, or nausea)
Deep grounding and centeredness
Expanded awareness or connection with higher guidance
Releasing mental chatter and emotional heaviness
Is Hapé safe?
When used in a ceremonial and respectful context, Hapé is generally safe and non-addictive. However, it is a strong medicine and should always be used with proper guidance and intention. If you have serious respiratory issues or are highly sensitive to tobacco, please let us know beforehand so we can adjust the ceremony accordingly.
Can I combine Hapé with other plant medicines?
Yes, Hapé is often used in combination with other master plant medicines such as Ayahuasca or Psilocybin. It helps prepare the mind and body, clears energy before ceremony, and supports integration afterward. Our facilitators will guide you on when and how Hapé can best support your overall process.
What should my intention be?
Hapé is most powerful when used as a prayer — a call to Spirit, healing, clarity, or grounding. Before receiving the medicine, we invite you to connect with a sincere intention. This might be something you wish to release, invite in, or understand more deeply within yourself.
